Abe and Shelly Abich

ABE & SHELLY ABICH


Abe and Shelly married in August of 2015 and shortly after turned their focus to running Abich Financial Services as a family firm. Always striving to serve the D.C. Metro area through business and charity, AFS has helped both individuals and families hone their retirement goals and realize their financial ambitions.

Abe acts in his capacity as a seasoned retirement income planning professional and a Certified Financial Fiduciary®, while Shelly, with experience ranging from public school teaching to a Fortune 500 business division, leads strategic decision-making and ensures that both prospective and existing clients have a positive experience.

Abe Abich


Founder & Co-CEO,
Certified Financial Fiduciary®, Investment Advisor Representative

Abe founded Abich Financial Services (AFS) in 2008 and has 20 years of experience in financial services. He is a seasoned retirement income planning professional and a Certified Financial Fiduciary®.

Abe hosts the D.C. metro area radio show, “Retirement Key Radio,” on 105.9 WMAL and the television show, “Retirement Key TV,” on WUSA 9 and ABC7 WJLA.

Abe and the team have helped close to 1,000 individuals and families prepare for their financial futures. His authored articles can be seen in Forbes, Fortune, Yahoo! Finance, CNN Money, and more. Abe has also served as a member of the Forbes Financial Council. He earned his B.S. from Liberty University, where he lived out his dream to pitch for their Division I baseball team.

In August 2015, Abe married his wife, Shelly, and they became proud Leesburg residents and teamed up to run AFS as a family firm. With a determination to always give back to the local community, he joined his wife in starting a senior non-profit, has served on the board for Loudoun Habitat for Humanity, and is a member of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce and Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg. He is an avid Washington Commanders fan and, on weekends, enjoys being a local foodie, biking the trails, and boating on the Potomac.

 

Shelly Abich


Co-CEO & Chief Experience Officer

Shelly joined Abich Financial Services in 2015 and serves as the chief experience officer. She leads strategic decision-making and ensures that both prospective and existing clients have a positive experience with AFS.

She directs the message that is relayed to the community about what makes AFS unique from other firms and explains this in detail to prospective clients. Through company events and regular communication, she also works to maintain the satisfaction of current clients.

Shelly has 10 years of experience in the new business division for a Fortune 500 company and taught middle school for two years prior to joining AFS. Due to her passion for seniors, she earned a Master’s degree in gerontology in 2009 and in 2019 founded the non-profit, Love of Gray, whose mission is to ignite a movement of millennials to see and celebrate seniors. Her close connection with AFS clients has led to their support, including serving as officers on the board. Originally from Frederick, Maryland, Shelly became a resident of Leesburg, VA when she and Abe married in 2015. She enjoys all outdoor activities and living an organic lifestyle.

 

Angela Mari


Director of Operations, Chief Compliance Officer, Certified Divorce Specialist

Angela has served as a key member of the Abich Financial team since 2015. She has participated in many roles within the company and built the groundwork for various departments before settling into her role as Director of Operations.

In her current role, she works behind the scenes on business development and operations.

As a female financial professional, she is passionate about creating financial resources geared towards the unique needs of women approaching or in retirement. Her expertise as a Certified Divorce Specialist adds a layer of sensitivity to the support we provide to divorcees.

Angela lives in Reston, VA, and is kept on her toes by a very energetic toddler named Isla. Few know that Angela is also a Licensed Nutritionist with an M.S. in nutrition and integrative health. She’s a foodie and excellent dinner companion.

 

Sera Francis


Director of Client Services

Sera joined Abich Financial in the fall of 2020 with a background in case management and client services from non-profit organizations.

She goes above and beyond to create a seamless experience for both the team and the clients at Abich Financial.

Sera earned a degree in business administration at Excelsior College in NY and is currently pursuing her MBA at Liberty University. She appreciates the simple things in life like playing tennis, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. Occasionally, Sera delights in watching a good binge-worthy TV series.

Justin Dobak


Investment Advisor Representative

Justin Dobak brings a wealth of experience in investment and financial planning to Abich Financial. He began his career interning with Dominion Financial Consultants while completing his B.S. in finance at Marymount University.

Upon graduation, he managed portfolios for a diverse range of clients, from modest families to high-net-worth individuals, and played a key role on the financial planning team.

At Northwestern Mutual, Justin established his own financial planning practice, developing comprehensive strategies tailored to each client’s wealth and risk management needs. He takes pride in listening closely to his clients’ personal stories, ensuring that each plan is as unique as the individuals he serves. Now at Abich Financial, he is dedicated to helping clients navigate financial opportunities with the goal of positioning them for long-term success, while remaining a trusted partner through every step of their financial journey.

Outside of work, Justin is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys fly fishing, ice hockey, strumming his guitar, and evening golf leagues.

 

Joshua Barbin, CFP®, CPWA®, CIMA®


Investment Advisor Representative

Joshua Gleason Barbin “JB” brings over a decade of experience in financial planning and investment management to Abich Financial.

He began his career working with prominent firms in both the Pittsburgh and DC areas, including Jones, Ameriprise, LPL, and two large RIAs, where he specialized in serving high-level government employees and high-net-worth clients. Joshua also ran his own Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) firm for three years, gaining a deep understanding of both comprehensive financial planning and investment management, with particular expertise in alternative assets.

Throughout his career, JB has tailored each financial strategy to meet his clients’ unique goals, combining investment management, retirement planning, and tax-efficient strategies. As a firm believer in the fiduciary standard, he always puts his clients’ best interests first.

Now at Abich Financial, JB continues to offer personalized advice and trusted guidance, focusing on long-term financial security while leveraging his CFP, CIMA, and CPWA designations to provide expert-level service.

Outside of work, JB enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, travelling, engaging in creative pursuits, and staying active in his church community.

 

Diego Herrera


Paraplanner, Advisor Team Lead

Diego has been a dedicated Paraplanner and Advisor Team Lead with Abich Financial for years, where he oversees the preparation of client appointments, manages client portfolios, and crafts comprehensive financial plans tailored to each individual’s unique needs.

He plays a vital role in fostering seamless advisor discussions, maintaining accountability, and ensuring the smooth operation of the firm’s financial systems, all while keeping a close eye on the details.

With a well-rounded educational background and bachelor’s degree, Diego brings a deep well of knowledge and expertise to both clients and the team, approaching financial planning with a strategic, thoughtful mindset.

Outside of work, Diego thrives in the great outdoors, enjoys belting out karaoke tunes, and dives deep into the complexities of financial markets and global economies. Passionate about building meaningful relationships, he loves engaging in philosophical discussions that seek to uncover deeper truths.

 

Thomas Bryan


Paraplanner

Thomas is committed to supporting our financial advisors by delivering comprehensive reports, dynamic illustrations, and in-depth analysis to craft and implement personalized strategies for each client.

Since joining the firm, Thomas has seamlessly integrated into the team, playing a crucial role in the ongoing management of client strategies and ensuring that asset allocations remain aligned with evolving goals.

Armed with a degree from Virginia Tech in Financial Planning & Wealth Management, Thomas brings extensive knowledge and expertise to our firm. Thomas has a strong background in financial services and the creation of comprehensive financial planning. He believes that the best way to enhance the planning process is through clear communication and building lasting relationships.

Outside of work, Thomas enjoys playing golf, disc golf, running, reading, and spending time with his family and friends. He prides himself on being a well-rounded individual who brings energy, dedication, and a positive mindset to Abich, making a lasting impact every day.

Joshua Choi


Client Services Associate | Client Services Team Lead

Joshua became a part of Abich Financial in the fall of 2023, bringing with him a wealth of experience in client services and finance. His expertise has been a great asset to the Service team.

Over the years, Joshua has had the privilege of meeting many wonderful people and hearing their inspiring stories. He is highly motivated by the challenges and opportunities that the finance industry offers and is dedicated to achieving excellence and promoting innovation in all his endeavors.

In his personal life, Joshua is an avid plant enthusiast and dog lover. He also finds fulfillment in attending and volunteering at his church, which holds a special place in his life.

 

Connor Depew


Client Services Associate

Connor brings with him over two years of corporate banking and client services experience. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and a proud Virginia native, having grown up in the Richmond area.

Connor was drawn to working in the financial planning space due to his desire to help others attain their financial freedom and peace of mind. His favorite part of the job is speaking with and assisting clients to ensure they have the best customer service experience possible.

In his free time, Connor enjoys spending time with his dog Peyton and exploring the many parks in Northern Virginia. An avid sports fan, you can always find Connor cheering on the Colts, Yankees, and everything UVA.

 

Cesar Torres


Client Services Associate

Cesar joined Abich Financial as a Client Services Associate, bringing nearly a decade of experience in Mortgage and Settlement Services after earning his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Radford University.

With a background in Settlement Services from a Fortune 500 company, Cesar is enthusiastic about providing our clients with the utmost support. As a resident of Leesburg, he is well acquainted with the area, enjoying its restaurants and entertainment options.

Outside of work, Cesar enjoys exploring breweries and wineries with his wife, taking his Husky on long walks, and watching any and all sports.

Haley Brodnak


Client Relations Associate

Haley became a member of Abich Financial with extensive experience in the financial industry and a bachelor’s of business administration degree from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.

With a blend of knowledge and passion, she consistently strives to achieve optimal outcomes for both prospective and existing clients. Cultivating and sustaining key relationships and delivering exceptional customer service are always her top priorities.

Currently, Haley lives in Omaha, Nebraska, with her husband and their four beautiful children. When she isn’t at the local farmer’s market or church, Haley spends her free time baking and hand-embroidering.

 

Matthew Hutchison


Client Relations Associate

Matt joined Abich Financial in the fall of 2023 shortly after receiving his B.S in Communications and Economics from James Madison University.

He brings years of experience in retail customer service management and direct sales.

His background in sales and customer service allows him to excel at client acquisition and screening. His mission is to foster meaningful relationships within the community and help potential clients make the best decisions possible when it comes to their retirement.

In his free time, Matt enjoys reading, going on hikes, or snowboarding in the winter.

Client Relations Associate

Pedro brings his proven track record in sales, management, and exceptional customer service to Abich Financial.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, he effortlessly connects with clients from diverse backgrounds. His unwavering dedication to assisting clients in achieving dignified and confident retirements perfectly mirrors Abich Financial’s mission. Pedro is committed to mastering the intricacies of the financial services industry and is currently enrolling in a business and pre-law degree program at George Mason University.

 

OPERATIONS TEAM


Christopher Jenks


Compliance and Marketing Manager, Client Relations Team Lead

Chris joined Abich Financial in November of 2022 shortly after earning a B.S. from The College of William and Mary. His background in documentation, data entry and analysis, and management has proven to be valuable in his role at Abich Financial.

Chris is involved in many of the business operations of Abich Financial, primarily focusing on overseeing the firm’s marketing and compliance departments.

Chris has recently become a local to the Ashburn area. His hobbies include exercising, playing golf, watching sports, spending time with family and friends, and making robust Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.

 

Hannah Arriola


Operations Associate

Hannah joined Abich Financial Services as an Operations Associate. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Public Relations from the University of Lynchburg.

With her impressive background as a Human Resources Project Manager for a Fortune 500 Company, Hannah brings a wealth of experience in leading the delivery and execution of programs and projects that focus on improving employee experiences and long-term business operations. She is passionate about connecting with team members to help best support their careers at Abich Financial Services and working with leadership to continuously build upon the incredible care and resources that we provide our employees.

Outside of the office, Hannah enjoys volunteering within her community, cooking delicious meals to share with family and friends, diving into a good book or podcast, and cherishing all of the precious moments with her young family.

 

Kristina Nishanian


Executive Assistant

Kristina joined Abich Financial in the summer of 2023 with a B.S. in communications from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her background in customer service, office management, business administration and accounting has proven valuable to the Operations team.

She plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless daily functioning of the business and cultivating a consistently positive client experience.

In her free time, Kristina enjoys taking walks with her dog, painting, and spending time with friends and family.

 

Brenda Carbajal


Front Office Associate

Brenda received her Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media with a minor in Web Design and Integration from George Mason University. Her professional experience in customer service, office management, and marketing is an integral part of our Operations Team.

In her free time, Brenda enjoys reading various genres, maintaining her garden, staying active through exercise, and cherishing quality time with family and friends.
